About the SARTEC

Established in 1949, the Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma (SARTEC) is a professional union that gathers over 1,250 members. Its purpose is to study, defend and develop the social, economic and moral interests of French-speaking authors. It negotiates collective agreements, defends its members’ professional interests in front of public authorities, advises authors on contract matters and offers a collection of manuscripts service.
In 2002, for the first time in its history, the SARTEC asked its authors and the cultural milieu to contribute to an individual case—Claude Robinson’s case.
This initiative was inevitable. Robinson’s case illustrates any creator’s nightmare: being robbed of one’s work. The case’s significance, its strength and Robinson’s unequalled thirst for justice have earned him the artistic community’s support.
Considering what was at stake for all artists and creators, the SARTEC decided to become associated to Operation Claude Robinson. Through this association, it aims at reaching the public: movie and TV fans, as well culture aficionados and any citizen who wants to see justice prevail.
Claude Robinson has earned our support.
Help Claude Robinson
In 2002, following a unanimous ruling from its General assembly, the SARTEC created a trust fund to support Claude Robinson in his fight against Cinar et al.
Relying on the kindness of creators and associations from the milieu, the SARTEC had managed to gather roughly $84,000. These funds helped paying for expert reports, disbursements, transcripts, taxes, etc., during the first trial.
The new donations will be used for the proceedings in appeal to cover all associated expenses.
The Claude Robinson support fund is governed by these rules:
- All donations must be made to the following name: “SARTEC en fidéicommis pour Claude Robinson”.
- Sadly, all donations in support of Claude Robinson are not tax deductible. They are not union or professional fees, nor donations to an established artistic organization or to a caritative cause in contemplation of the law.
- Except if the donator expressly states the desire to remain anonymous or to keep the amount of the donation confidential, the SARTEC will, in case of need, mention the name and the amount of the donation.
- No administrative fees will be charged by the SARTEC regarding the gathered funds. All of them will be used to support Claude Robinson in his case against Cinar et al.
- Claude Robinson will remain the sole master craftsman in his case. However, the SARTEC will make sure that donations will be used in as part of pertinent procedures for the creative community.
